Our recent football tour to Madrid gave our squad exactly that. They went as a team and came home a little closer, a little braver, and a lot richer in memories.

That kind of challenge stretches a young footballer in a way no ordinary week can. You learn quickly when the game in front of you is unfamiliar, and every player found something new in themselves.

Off the pitch, Madrid did the rest. It is one of the great footballing cities in the world, and you feel it everywhere, in the way the game is talked about, watched and loved. Our players soaked it up. They shared meals, roomed together, sorted themselves out away from home and grew in independence with every passing day.
